What is the best approach for trading momentum stocks with a longer holding period (say 1-6 months)? i.e. position trading. Or is this inherently inferior to swing trading?
So for buying look for a longer term basing period & get in early. Sounds logical.
What should be the catalyst(s) for closing such a trade (and taking profits) given you are not stopped out? This is where I struggle most. i.e. letting my profits run vs. staying too long at the party. Any help would be appreciated!
You can put a stop at 10 day moving average but once position is above say 20% plus in profit move to say 7 days MA and as profit increase look at moving stop to 2 day lows.

For longer term hold using momentum a larger consolidation pre breakout is required plus a early entry once momentum phase starts needs to be done.
Thanks Pradeep,
