Small edge or large edge

As a speculator, there is always a choice between finding small edges and finding large edges. That also determines the frequency of your trades. Buffet is an example of someone with large edge. In his lifetime he has done very few trades. Compare that to the day traders or statistical based traders who do several in a day or week.
The mental make up required to make the transition is very difficult and that is why certain traders would rather continue to trade a mediocre small edge strategy than make a leap to using larger edge strategies.
The Market Wizards book has examples of both kinds of traders. There are examples of traders who make triple digit returns with few trades in that book and at the same time examples of the opposite.
Most of the small edge finding methodologies are similar to what you will find on the Tradefeed blog. There are number of other blogs devoted to high frequency techniques, personally I prefer systems or strategies with larger edge. All my effort is devoted to finding and developing larger edge involving lower frequency of trading.
