Stock Du Jour

ELON:Echelon Corporation (Echelon) develops, markets and sells system and network infrastructure products. To the building, home, industrial, transportation, and other automation markets, the Company sells a suite of network infrastructure products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). OEMs design in, or embed, its products into their products and systems in order to give their products local intelligence and networking capability. Echelon’s LonWorks Infrastructure (LWI) products (the products that it sells to OEMs) include transceivers, control modules, routers, network interfaces, development tools, and software tools and toolkits.

ELON is a member of Double Trouble universe and had weakness on 30 day growth coming in to today, so it was on stocks to watch list. Today morning it had 4% plus breakout by 10 A.M. The move accelerated later and it ended up on Episodic Pivot scan by afternoon. It went on to make a 31.98% move by end of day.

Yeah it was certainly strong today!

Would it be possible to put a search feature in your blog?

Pradeep Bonde said...

There is search function at top left hand corner.

Thanks.

I'm apparently not too observant.

Can you please post the current list of double trouble universe? I am attempting to recreate the list in Telechart, so far without any luck. Thanks!

Concerning ELON, if you're not in do you wait for a pullback and the next 4% breakout before entering?

What is/would be your strategy with this stock going forward?

thanks.

Pradeep, why don't you publish Double Trouble every day anymore? Will you? Or is there a way I can figure out how to do it myself? I have too much cash sitting on the sidelines!

Thanks,
Stephen

I think ELON could be bought at current price, i dont think it pulls back. Im usually not around during the day so my first opportunity at something like ELON would be tomorrow morning.

It actually looks like a pretty good play to me, market will anticipate future sales of that product now that its been adopted by such a major company. The volume says this is a very important event.

Pradeep,

Your site is great and by far my favorite. Your style and knowledge is helping me alot.

Like the other poster I am in need of the daily double trouble. Since I learned about it I have been trying to translate your formula to Ameritrade strategy desk but am not having much luck. I am really enjoying learning about different screens and formulas but I am wondering if Ameritrade is not sophisticated enough to accomplish some of your formulas. Could you tell me what the letters stand for in the formula for double trouble?
I know you use your own screener but is there another one that you would you recommend? Thanks so much. I have learned a lot from your site and I will continue to do so!

I was reading the PR for the Third Quarter 2007 Financial Results of GBX.

Depending on how which quarter you compare it too the Q3 result can be good or soso.

Do you compare Q3 with Q2 or with last year Q3?

Stocks of interest
Bullish breakout of 4% or more
ONSM Can this be the start of a rally like that of late May?
WLSN Recently crossed the 100plus line. Watch for pullback

Earnings Season
INNO Earnings up 113% but not suitable because EPS was less than 0.05
ZZ Earnings up more than 100% but no surprise (actually did not meet estimate)

There are over 500 candidates in Double Trouble list, plus the list is dynamic , it changes everyday, so posting it is not a very feasible solution.
Dan
ELON- This is existing position picked up yesterday as it was in Double Trouble scan by 10.30, plus I saw it on IB real time scanner pre market.
Because of the market conditions, I sold 90% of my position end of day making approximately 24% on this.
This will likely go up after pullback. Yes 4% breakout post pullback will be good entry.
Catalyst new orders.

Stephen
I have detailed how to do it several times. Alternatively try Son of Double Trouble which is simplified version of it.

rhonda
You can try Telechart and use the Son of Double Trouble, which will get you similar results.

ELON, BBND, MVG, PRFT, OPXT

Like you I did not find anything as of now.

2 questions;
You said you saw ELON in IB real time scanner in pre market; could you clarify; what is IB real time scanner

also, do you use Worden Platinum, the real time quotes?

Pradeep Bonde said...

IB= Interactive Brokers
No I do not use Platinum.
The only real time feed I use is IB.

Regarding the mechanics of ELON and making that trade. How are you able to quickly isolate it from the many other stocks that are hitting the real-time Market Scanner? Is there a stock behavior (price or volume) you are looking for after the break out? Do you set up an Alert to trigger after you first spot it or do you watch the chart in real-time?

From what I can tell ELON, gapped up 12%, then traded sideways for about 3 hours before taking off in the afternoon. Somewhere between 12:30 and 1pm there was a small volume spike and the stock spiked to 18.50. A big spike came about 3pm and the stock shot to almost $20. So how do you know when exactly to enter a stock like ELON?

Pradeep Bonde said...

I don't look at real time charts.
ELON was EP few months ago so I knew of it.
It was in Double Trouble universe with less than 10% growth in 30 days. So it was buy on 4% break in my methodology.
There was prominent news on it yesterday pre market. It had rallied post similar kind of news earlier.
Yesterday there were very few stocks up pre market and on IB scanner. As it was negative day.
It was up around a dollar by open. By that time I had already bought some and built more position as volume came in.
I never thought it would go up so much in a day. When I saw frenzied buying late in day, I promptly uploaded 90% position. It looked like short covering to me.

Everyday I go through the Double Trouble and IBD 200 list and sort
the list by:
100 * (C1 - C22) / C22
and take those with less than 10% growth and further reduce them down to 5 to 10 candidates to watch. ELON was on that list. Those stocks breakout I buy even if it is in pre market.

Hi Pradeep,
You are right about the search feature but correct me if I'm wrong but it does not search through the comments, right?

Since there is a lot of information in all the comments, it would be nice to able to run searches on them ...

Anonymous said...

Pradeep, according to your comments to Todd and Dan, it seems that Interactive Brokers have some sort of screening capabalities. Could you please tell me more about it? Are we able to use similar formulas as in TC2007 to spot EP and breakouts?

I am currently using e-Trade(i get real-time quotes but no screening)and would probably change for IB if it is the case, unless it's way to expensive :)

Pradeep Bonde said...

IB has a basic screener. I think IB costs are significantly lower than Etrade.

Thank you Pradeep, i'll look into IB furhter... Any thoughts about the possibility of searching through comments?
